Leadership Decides What Should Be Done
A supply chain veteran who sees AI as a catalyst for expertise — and trust, purpose and confidence as what only leaders provide
Spanning more than three decades, his career encompasses leadership roles at Swire Coca-Cola, YATFAI Group, Jebsen Logistics, Hutchison Telecom, and DFI Retail Group. Throughout this journey, he has transformed distribution networks, implemented digital systems, and driven operational efficiencies.
Today, as Regional Director of Supply Chain & Operations at Telford International Co., he views supply chain as a strategic engine of business growth, where agility, precision, and resilience are essential to navigating complexity, meeting evolving customer demands, and strengthening regional operations.
Believing that success is always a team effort, Mr. Raymond Li Siu-on is recognised as one of the 10 Leading Supply Chain Leaders in Asia 2026. He shares his perspective on the human qualities that set effective leaders apart in an era where AI increasingly shapes business decisions in an exclusive conversation with Corporate TrendZ Asia:
“AI will become powerful in forecasting demand, optimizing inventory, identifying risks, and recommending actions. However, leadership is about people, and that remains uniquely human. One example was a demand planning transformation project where we introduced predictive analytics to improve forecast accuracy. Initially, planners were skeptical because they had relied on experience and intuition for years. Rather than forcing compliance, we involved planners in validating assumptions, testing algorithms, and refining forecasting parameters. They began to see the system not as a threat to their expertise, but as a tool that strengthened their decision-making. Eventually, they used it to identify demand patterns earlier and proactively prepare inventory ahead of events, improving service levels while reducing planning pressure. That experience reinforced that AI can tell us what may happen, but it cannot create trust, inspire commitment, or bring people together through change. Technology generates insights, but leaders provide context, purpose, and confidence. I believe the future belongs to leaders who combine data intelligence with human judgment. AI may show us what can be done, but leadership determines what should be done and how people move forward together.”
