  • Vietnam Airlines has officially launched a new direct service connecting Hanoi and Cebu, strengthening air connectivity between Vietnam and the Philippines and reinforcing the airline’s growing footprint across Southeast Asia. The new route marks a strategic milestone for the carrier as it continues to expand its international network in high-growth regional markets. The inaugural flight, VN643, operated by an Airbus A321, departed Noi Bai International Airport at 22:50 on December 2 and arrived at Mactan-Cebu International Airport at 03:30 local time on December 3, carrying around 100 passengers. To commemorate the launch, Vietnam Airlines organised welcome ceremonies at both departure and arrival airports, along with special gifts for passengers on the first flight. This new service represents the first direct air link between Vietnam’s capital and one of the Philippines’ most popular leisure destinations. Cebu is widely known for its pristine islands, vibrant marine life, cultural landmarks, and diverse tourism offerings ranging from beach resorts and water sports to culinary experiences and eco-adventures. The route is expected to appeal strongly to leisure travellers, tour operators, and regional holidaymakers. Flights from Hanoi to Cebu will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Return services from Cebu to Hanoi are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. With a direct flight time of approximately three hours, the route significantly reduces travel time compared to connecting services, offering greater convenience and flexibility for passengers. The new connection also opens fresh opportunities for Filipino travellers to explore Hanoi and nearby destinations such as Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, and Sapa, all key pillars of Vietnam’s tourism appeal. According to Dang Anh Tuan, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, the route goes beyond aviation. He noted that it strengthens cultural and economic ties while supporting tourism and collaboration between the two countries. The Hanoi–Cebu service aligns with the airline’s broader strategy to deepen regional connectivity, stimulate tourism growth, and contribute to the long-term development of Southeast Asia’s aviation and travel ecosystem.
