Grab Expands Automation Push with Acquisition of Chinese AI Robotics Firm Infermove

Singapore-based GRAB HOLDINGS LTD. (NASDAQ: GRAB) has acquired Infermove, a Chinese artificial intelligence robotics company. This acquisition is a strategic move to strengthen the automated logistics capabilities across first- and last-mile delivery operations.

The acquisition underscores the company’s growing focus on robotics and AI to enhance efficiency across its expanding mobility and delivery ecosystem. Infermove, founded in 2021 by Aaron (Yingxiang) Lu, specializes in autonomous driving systems for unstructured environments and mobile manipulation robots.

Grab’s Chief Technology Officer, Suthen Thomas Paradatheth, announced the acquisition of Infermove. Through imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and proprietary end-to-end algorithms, the company has addressed key industry challenges related to costly and time-intensive data acquisition.

Despite its relatively short history, Infermove has demonstrated rapid commercialization progress. Its Carri series delivery robots have partnered with major Chinese platforms, including Meituan, Alibaba Group’s Ele.me, Sam’s Club, and JD.COM, backed by data. Following the acquisition, Infermove will continue to operate independently under its existing management team.

This acquisition will help in Grab’s automation strategy as rising labor costs and sustained demand for on-demand delivery push platforms to adopt AI-driven solutions. As Grab continues to invest in advanced technologies, the integration of Infermove’s robotics expertise is expected to enhance service reliability, scalability, and long-term profitability across Southeast Asia and beyond.
