Mastercard appointed Richard Wormald as President – Asia Pacific. This appointment will lead Mastercard’s strategic agenda for the Asia Pacific region, reinforcing growth, innovation, and long-term partnerships across diverse markets and stakeholder groups.
With over two decades of leadership experience in financial services, payments, and consulting. He also served as Division President, Australasia for Mastercard. He built his professional experience through roles at Wesfarmers, where he led the development of Coles Financial Services. His early career included strategic and consulting positions with Accenture and roles with Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Ford Motor Company across the UK, Europe, and Asia.
Wormald holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (M.Eng) from the University of Southampton and is a Chartered Accountant (ACMA, CGMA), combining analytical rigour with strategic financial acumen essential to his leadership role.
In his new role, he be will be shaping and executing Mastercard’s regional strategy, strengthening engagement with governments, regulators, financial institutions, and merchants, and advancing technological innovation. His appointment follows a planned leadership transition in which Ari Sarker will step down after more than a decade as President, Asia Pacific, and move into an advisory role to support continuity and mentorship across the region.
